I’m from the east coast. When we told people that we were moving to Kansas City (voluntarily) we were warned by well intentioned friends that we were forever giving up all the things that the tri-state New York metropolitan area offers – the museums, 1st rate entertainment,historic sites, superb shopping, the ocean beaches. And, since none of our friens ever lived in this eara, it’s amazing how people stereotype certain areas! (But then, I’m sure people here have a certain stereotype image of New York.) They thought we were moving to a desolate place on the prairie and that we wouldn’t last long before moving back east. To be perfectly blunt, they all thought we were crazy! Long story short, we’ve been here 10 years now and simply love it. Johnson County in particular mirrors areas where we lived on the east coast and we felt right at home here. As the article attests, Kansas City has so much to offer; it is and is one of the best kept secrets. Of course, as much as there is here, I do miss a few things, but I’m sure with time this too shall come to pass – an authentic NY bagel place, and a world class Italian Deli. I guess we can’t do anything about the ocean beaches! But, I’m happy.
